Behind the Scenes of Why I made the video “Why Small Creative Acts = Big Inner Rewards”

By Lynette Melnyk

I didn’t sit down to film this video with a perfect plan or a polished outline. I made it because I needed the reminder myself.

Lately, I’ve felt that quiet but persistent pressure — the kind that whispers, “You should be doing more.”
More making. More sharing. More producing. More results! And in that space, even creativity starts to feel like a job.

So I stepped away from my to-do list. I looked around. I noticed the sunlight and shadows from the tree branches dancing on the floor. And that noticing — that simple moment of presence — became the seed of this video.

Moments That Shift Thinking

One moment happened while I was tidying up — not intending to be creative at all. I was rearranging a few books when I found a notebook I hadn’t seen in months. In it I had placed flowers to press and put it under other heavier books. That lost action was a delight.

And for some reason… that moment stayed with me the rest of the day. I was thankful that I found the book and that so many ideas were not percolating in my mind. Fun things to do.

This unexpected event didn’t look like much from the outside, but internally, something softened. I felt lighter. Clearer. Reconnected.

That’s what I mean by inner reward.

Why I Recorded “Why Small Creative Acts = Big Inner Rewards”

When I filmed this video, I wasn’t trying to teach anything. I just wanted to speak gently — to myself, and maybe to you — about how we often overlook the tiny flickers of creativity that pass through our days.

We think we’re not doing “enough” unless we’re making something big. But what if those small acts or discoveries, the ones that no one sees, are the ones that feed us the most?

What if:

  • Arranging fruit in a bowl counts as creative acts

  • Humming while you fold laundry counts

  • Journaling messy thoughts counts

  • Cooking without a recipe counts

  • Taking a photo of something just because you love the light... counts

Not because they lead to something. But because they bring you back to yourself.

That’s the real reward. Not applause. Not output. But aliveness.

What I Hope This Video Offers

If you’ve felt disconnected from your creativity, I hope this video offers a breath — a moment of quiet recognition. Not pressure to do more, but permission to notice more.

Because the path back to your creative self isn’t paved with big projects or breakthroughs. It’s made of small, nourishing moments. The kind that feel like nothing — until you realize they’ve changed something inside you.

It’s gentle, reflective, and made with a lot of care. And if it speaks to you, I’d love if you subscribed or shared it with someone who might need it too.

A Question for You

What small creative moment have you experienced lately — even if no one else would call it “creative”?

Maybe it was the way you plated your food. The playlist you made for a quiet morning. A color combination you couldn’t stop looking at. These tiny things matter. They shape your inner world.

And your inner world? That’s the place where real creativity begins.
